Foundation. The best city-building games coming in 2020 and 21
Table of Contents
- Developers: Polymorph Games
- Release date: April 2020
- In one sentence: Settlers with the ability to modify buildings
Leaving behind the hardships of the ancient era, let's move on to the middle ages – with a pinch of salt. In Foundation, this era is colorful as a parish holiday, which, however, does not mean the gameplay is trivial.
DEVELOPERS TALK ABOUT THEIR GAME:
By being [totally] gridless, we are aiming to redefine the city building experience, pushing forward player’s creativity and immersion.
Hurricane , our in-house engine, provides players with the tools to create sprawling cities that will grow organically in a gridless environment, much closer to how cities grew in the middle ages.
Feedback from the community has been exceptional, helping to mold and improve the game whilst blowing us away with their creative use of the [modular] monument creation tool.
The final game will include over 70 buildings, more than 15 monuments as well as full modding support and an in-depth mission system punctuated by narrative events.
Andy Ashton, Polymorph Games
In Foundation, our task is to build a strong and prosperous city, which can present a considerable challenges. To ensure the sustainable development of our settlement, we must build production chains dependent on the supply of all kinds of raw materials. Therefore, it is important to choose the location of our settlement to ensure access to all necessary goods, so that each resident has materials for work.
What really sets the Foundation apart from other games of this type is the ability to design our own facilities. Every castle or church we want to build can be modified at will with the built-in editor. Moreover, the shape and size of individual buildings should have a direct bearing on the gameplay, so that it will be even more diverse, and we will get the opportunity to play a medieval architect.
