- In a nutshell: a typical hack'n'slash dungeon crawler but this time full of blocks and cubes
Dungeon crawler full of various types of cubic heroes has no ambition to fight for supremacy with upcoming Diablo 4, but it will find its market niche, perhaps even larger than we may expect. Minecraft: Dungeons shouldn't be considered as a typical dungeon crawler due to its title. The game isn't going to feature any typical role-playing mechanics or character stats. Instead, it will offer lots of weapons and equipment which can be used to exterminate enemies who have nestled in a dungeon under a small town. Sounds familiar, right?
The army of monsters is led by a cruel villain called Arch-Illager, a former resident of the town, who got corrupted to the bone by a cubic artifact found in a cave. As usual, the main antagonist can only be defeated by new heroes who, in a party of up to four people, can collaborate to overcome the evil that is spreading around them. If everything will go as planned at Mojang AB headquarters, then we should be able to play the game in spring, this year. Just in case, we would like to inform you that Minecraft: Dungeons has already scored one delay, because it was supposed to be released in 2019.
The father of Minecraft, famous Marcus "Notch" Persson, has sold the rights to his magnum opus to Microsoft for two and a half billion dollars. It is doubtful that the American giant will make up for this amount on sales of this title, but having such a strong brand is also a prestige and an opportunity to develop it further. So far, more than a decade after Minecraft's release, it is still a world phenomenon.
Due to Persson's controversial, politically incorrect statements, Microsoft designers are delighted when they have an opportunity to remove any traces of the original creator's presence in the game code. He was also not invited to the Minecraft's tenth anniversary party, which is not going to surprise anyone. Slogans and tweets posted by Notch could damage the company's image.
