Midnight Fight Express starts at a police interrogating cell. A typical scene – we have two slow-witted cops questioning the protagonist. They want to know more about a mysterious attack of Boss's gangsters on Tomorrow City. Surprisingly, our hero starts recounting the story in fine detail – each level is a different retrospection.
The idea for gameplay in Midnight Fight Express involves causing widespread mayhem with fists, weapons taken from opponents, and items from visited rooms. Performing combos multiplies combat score, but before you start to pummel the next opponent, wait for the right moment to strike. From stage to stage, you can develop your hero and repeat previously completed levels with newly unlocked abilities to rack up even more points. Fluid combinations and spectacular way of disposing of opponents is converted into dollars, and the amassed cash can be spent e.g. on new appearance items.
