PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Games full of bugs that players loved anyway
Table of Contents
The sudden explosion in popularity of the battle royale genre is the biggest industry phenomenon since the invention of MOBA games. Playerunknown's Battlegrounds was at the forefront of this revolution and became a hit long before it was actually completed. Or rather "should be completed, " because although it's been a few months since the final version was released last December, the work of Brendan Greene and company still feels very unpolished. And the players are starting to lose patience.
If you look at recent reviews on Steam, you'll notice that one recurring thread is a variety of bugs that haven't been fixed by any of the numerous patches. Optimization is still poor, although it would seem that it should be a priority. PUBG can also turn itself off for no reason and throw us off the edge of the map. Recently, it has also had a huge problem with cheaters spoiling the fun for other players. Unfortunately, for now, it doesn't look like developers are rushing to do anything about it.
But it's still a production that, while still in its early days, has generated the kind of revenue that many high-budget hits can only dream of, and has gathered a huge fan base around itself. Millions of people spent hours every night in the game, although for a long time only one map was available. While Fortnite has taken over the battle royale throne in recent months, Playerunknown's Battlegrounds is still the project that started the whole phenomenon. And for that reason, though, it would be worth for its creators to take their work seriously.
