The production of the Warsaw-based studio turned out to be one of the most atmospheric exploration games of 2014. For those times, the graphics were simply stunning. Although the area that the player could freely traverse was not very large, the refinement of every detail (including the bark of trees or flowers growing not accidentally in this and not another place) still makes a great impression.
At the beginning, the creators worked on Unreal Engine 3, squeezing everything it had. In addition, they managed to implement an original system of recreating events from the past. Thanks to this, the regular investigation and searching for clues is very pleasant in aesthetic terms.
After the commercial success of the game, Warsaw programmers improved their work on the occasion of the premiere of the Redux edition. This time they have already used the capabilities of Unreal Engine 4. Even so, the first, unpatched version is still more than just a "walking simulator." It's an extraordinary story that we can experience with all our senses thanks to the ultra-realistic graphic design and the atmospheric sound setting.
WHAT REMAINS OF EDITH FINCH
The newer What Remains of Edith Finch is held in similar atmosphere as The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. In the game, we play the role of other representatives of the title heroine's family. Each story has its own original mechanics, slow pace and a slightly different style. And even if the otherwise extremely interesting story about the fate of the Edith Finch family did not interest you at all, you should play the American production if only to admire the charming views.
