The second metroidvania on the list is definitely a darker and more difficult title than Ori. The bright colors of Moon Studios' production are superseded by gloomier style of insect world. Each of the numerous bosses that stand in the way of the little warrior has a story and a place in the mythology of the game. This is extremely complex and even if it didn't manage to avoid a few logical gaps, it's hard not to admire its enormity.
The game uses the Unity engine to the limits. The fights are very dynamic and spectacular. Especially when bosses use special abilities. Although a small studio is responsible for Hollow Knight, this title is so extensive that you need not a dozen, not several dozen, but at least a hundred hours of gameplay to learn all of its secrets (if we count the post-launch expansions).
The atmosphere of the insect kingdom is very suggestively reflected by the subtle soundtrack of Christopher Larkin. There's no point in looking for strong beats and energetic chords – the composer consistently awakens a feeling of nostalgia. And we must admit that it works perfectly in this case!
