Although it's a shooter, one would like to say, "only" isometric, it dazzles with visual solutions at every step. The cyberpunk city is vibrant and alive. The creators took care of the smallest details to make the player's journey through the world of the future more believable. A huge feat was achieved by the Polish composer Pawel Blaszczak, creating a soundtrack reminiscent of the classics of the SF genre, and at the same time making the whole thing original enough to know after a few chords that the piece comes from The Ascent.
This is another example of how great an engine UR4 is. And how talented graphics specialists work in the Swedish studio Neon Giant. Lighting is a real masterpiece that can embarrass the biggest giants of the industry. Just like the carefully planned locations and the designs of heroes and opponents themselves.
It's a pity, but the combat system could use a few more patches. Because while shooting in The Ascent is really nice, some of the strange mechanics can discourage the most persistent players. It happens that enemies unexpectedly disappear or respawn at an extremely high level. But it's all fixable – most importantly, we finally have a beautiful cyberpunk indie game that you can play together with friends.
