Ultima 4: Quest Of The Avatar

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Genre: RPG
  2. Release date: 16 September 1985
  3. Developer: Origin Systems
  4. Available at: GOG

Some time ago, Lord British caused an RPG revolution. Together with Origin Systems, he created a vast game that broke with the classic “go there and kick his ass” formula. The plot is quite complicated and elaborate like never before. And it was quite engaging. Combat system required adequate strategies and using both equipment and the surroundings. Many think that this installment in the Ultima series will be remembered as milestone for the RPG genre.

HOW WELL DID IT AGE?

Unfortunately, despite its advantages and revolutionary character, the game today seems quite bad. It’s an archaic production partially based on queries. Also the clumpy visuals together with obsolete mechanics do not help at all. The game is a treat to those who played Ultima IV at the right moment. Both seventh and eighth installments of the series stood the test of time with a better result, however they are not available for free.
