- Is killing everyone one of the goals of the game: Sort of
In Dark Souls, killing almost anyone is a great idea. Part of the reason for this maybe that we are usually the one dying. Even in fights against enemies, who were neutral toward us before we accidentally hit them.
The first Souls brought a truly legendary difficulty level. So legendary, in fact, that it spurred an entire sub-genre of games, called soulslike. The bosses are of course the hardest to defeat. Did anyone managed to win the first time around? If so, I applaud! I often needed even several dozen attempts for this. At the beginning, the more sensitive players may have a problem with killing distorted creatures that do not harm them, but their death is associated with completing important quests.
Later, however, we quickly get used to it. In Dark Souls , it's better to just kill everyone. Or die alone. Of course, with some exceptions. In the game, we sometimes come across NPCs who are neutral or, in some circumstances, even help us. Unfortunately, if we hit any one of them at least once, they will be attacking us forever. Fortunately, the developers introduced a forgiveness mechanic. If we go to the church in Tseldor and pay for our sins, they will be forgiven... Well, until we attack again.
Stylistically, Dark Souls is a bit like Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines. This vampire RPG also allowed you to kill (almost) everyone – what's more, the devs also took care to make sure that death of a quest giver would not prevent us from completing the game. After all, there's no way to tell when and where vampire hunger will take control.
