For many years, Carmageddon was highly controversial. And that's not because of the quality of the racing model. It was decent, but if that was the end of the story, the game probably wouldn't have had a single sequel. However, mowing down pedestrians turned out a dream-come-true for many players, even if it had been a very supressed dream.
European publishers did their best to mitigate the shocking effects of the massacre carried out by players in the virtual city – some made the blood in the game green, others turned passers-by for aliens, zombies, or robots, making every effort to ensure that those who were ran over did not also sound like humans. However, it was all for nothing – players outdid each other in introducing mods to return to the initial form of the game, and when it turned out that protesting the game only worked to its advantage, the opponents finally conceded and Stainless Games released a patch that restored all the censored content.
Many fans are inclined to believe that the best work of these creators was Carmageddon: Reincarnation. The creators gave us cars that were not only devilishly fast, but also armed to the teeth to most effectively extend your time limit with more "frags." And yes, some races could be completed without a single casualty. The only question is "what for?" – since this is what the game is all about.
