Arcanum, despite some technical shortcomings, was one of the absolute best isometric RPGs of the early 20th century. Perhaps even the last of the classics. Absolutely everything deserved attention here – wonderful violin music, an extremely carefully crafted universe that combined magic, technology and forces of nature, countless expressive companions, and – most importantly – the plot that was gripping until the last act.
The competitors of Black Isle from Troika Games managed to fill their game with easter eggs to the same extent as the case of revolutionary post-apo series. Especially interesting were conversations with enemies or companions, whom we first killed... and then brought back to life. Not that we encourage doing it at home, but it sounds like an almost perfect way to make friends.
Despite formal lack of restrictions on killing NPCs, it's extremely difficult to slay entire locations here. In cities, we can meet many well-armed opponents and they're not exactly waiting patiently for us to kill them off one by one. Besides, so many NPCs are connected to quests in one way or another than even if you go on a killing spree, you'll either have to resurrect them, or say goodbye to finishing the game! No other way about this.
