Grenades in CrossFire | Weapon and gear descriptipon CrossFire Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 21 March 2018
Grenades are an inseparable part of matches in CrossFire, where correctly used, they can control the course of the match. This chapter provides everything you should know, before you start using grenades.
Tyes of grenade tosses
In CrossFire, there are 3 grenade types and each of them can be tossed in a different way:
- Direct toss.
- Bouncing the grenade off a wall to make it explode in a specific spot. This technique is useful when you want to go out into the open. You simply have to stand by a wall and toss a grenade from behind a corner, so that it bounces off another wall or another object.
- In the case of flash grenades, you can perform the so called Popflash.
Once you have mastered the technique of tossing grenades, you will be able to assess the situation correctly and use the appropriate toss. For example, when the opponent is right behind a corner, you can toss a flash grenade so that it bounces off the wall opposite and attack after the opponent is blinded.
Flash grenade
Flash grenades are used to limit visibility in the opponent to perform an effective action. You can buy them in the shop for 2000GP and the majority of modes allow players to have one grenade of this type. While using flash grenades, remember about several important issues:
- The player looking straight into the flash is stunned for longer than one who saw the flash only with the corner of the eye.
- The longer the distance from the explosion, the lower the effectiveness of the flash grenade.
- A person turned away from the flash is not blinded.
- There are two basic techniques of tossing flashbang grenades:
Popflash
Tossing the grenade in such a way, so as the opponent does not have enough time to turn away. This type of tosses usually result in explosions in mid-air, or right in front of the opponent, thanks to which the drop does not make the alarming sound.
Flash behind own back
Another technique is about tossing the grenade so as it explodes behind your back, i.e. in the direction opposite to the direction of your intended movement. This technique is effective over short distance, when you cannot perform popflash. The most common way of this toss is bouncing the grenade off a wall.
Frag grenade
Frag grenades go off after a certain amount of time and they deal damage to all players within radius. Frag grenade is a perfect weapon against players hiding in corners and narrow passages, because they are be unable to run then. There are many uses of frag grenades:
- They are perfect for slowing down the attacking team.
- They are useful while attempting to seize the planting point.
- A single grenade may eliminate an opponent trying to plant the bomb.
- They can deal severe damage to players lurking in narrow corridors and passages.
- If you know that the enemy is right behind the corner, you can use a frag grenade to lure him out.
- Frag grenades are effective at smoking snipers out of their holes.
Smoke grenades
Smoke grenades are the basic tool of well-prepared defensive actions, but they can be just as effective in attack. Smoke grenades, just like flash grenades, are available at the shop for 2000GP and the majority of modes allow players to use one grenade of this type. Smoke grenades go off only after they stop moving, so you can freely bounce them off walls or other objects, to place them where you want them. There are many uses of smoke grenades:
- They are perfect for slowing down the attacking team. Use them predominantly in key spots that are frequented by the other team.
- Deploying smoke grenades in entrances into the planting point will make it difficult for the other team to assess how many players defend the point.
- While playing in the attacking team, use smoke grenades so as to make it easier for you to seize control of the map, or to enter the planting point.
- After you have planted the bomb, you could deploy a smokescreen in entrances into the planting point, to make it more difficult for the defenders how many attackers are inside.
- Smoke grenades are useful in Ghost mode, because you can spot the hidden opponent this way.
