Breathedge: Beginner's Guide & Tips Breathedge guide, walkthrough
Last update: 09 September 2021
This guide page includes basic information about Breathedge . You'll also find some tips that will make it easier to start the game and get familiar with the in-game world.
Censorship
In the first scene you'll be asked about censorship. We suggest using the censorship option. It affects tobacco products and their advertising - they will be replaced with carrots. This is quite a positive solution, which increases the comicism and abstractness of the game.
Permadeath
In Breathedge, the permadeath option is available. However, it applies only to the most difficult level of gameplay. Beginners should choose the standard level. You can die not only due to loosing all health points in the event of a threat, but sometimes as a result of sheer stupidity of the plot (eg. while blackmailing the AI of his spacesuit when things go too far).
Marker management
Over time, you will see a large number of markers on the screen. This can be annoying and cause confusion. Fortunately, in the menu you can disable any markers by pressing the menu key (by default Tab) and selecting the penultimate tab. It is also possible to change the color of individual markers that look the same.
New markers
New tags will appear over time and as the story progresses. You will be lead to some places by the spacesuit AI. Otherwise, you'll get a message from Babe with guidance to new interesting places.
If you are not a fan of exploration, you can use encrypted tapes which you will find in some coffins. Decrypting them on the interface (available for construction in the base, as well as operational in the communication module in the asteroid) will allow you to unlock one marker.
To unlock a new marker from another tape, first examine the location. If you use two tapes at the same time, you will still only get one marker.
Oxygen station and candles
The beginning of Breathedge can be difficult, especially because of the limited oxygen storage. However, you can create (or find) oxygen candles which renew 40 units of oxygen; in the second chapter you will find large candles renewing 200 units. Candle is relatively cheap: 1 metal and 1 battery. You can use them from the inventory level or assign them as tools to the quick selection bar. Nevertheless, in addition to the options for unlocking new oxygen tanks, there is another alternative available almost from the beginning of the game: oxygen station.
If you want to safely explore remote places, it is worth to stock up quickly oxygen station. You can set it up in space and "refuel" from it at any time when you find yourself next to it. One station contains 500 units of air, but can be refilled at low cost using Oxygen generator manufactured in a processor.
The blueprint of the oxygen station can be found in the wreckage below the first station. You have to build a scanner from the wall next to the door, or you have to pry it open and open the box inside.
In addition to the blueprint of the oxygen station, you will also unlock the blueprint of the oxygen generator for its replenishment. To create the oxygen station you need:
- oxygen candle,
- aluminium,
- thick tape.
Creating oxygen stations is much more cost-effective than using candles alone.
