World Exploration | Campaign Map Gameplay Total War: Warhammer II Guide
Last update: 02 October 2017
Exploring the game world is one of the most basic and important elements of the gameplay. That's why you should get to know the stances the armies can travel in as well as the influence that the environment can have on them.
Army stance
First, let's have a look at the army stances. Each Lord (and consequently - their armies) can chose one of a few stances that change the way the army travels around the map. You should learn these, since they will allow you to, for example, counteract the corruption or to travel further. Almost all of the stances bring with them different effects - both positive and otherwise. The normal stance doesn't introduce any additional effects (with the exception of the Skaven, who, in their normal stance, have better chances for ambushing the enemy). Since all races feature different stances, you should spare a minute to learn them if you begin the game with a race you haven't previously played.
The Lord's stance can be selected after hovering over the icon of the army stance, which is visible next to the Lord's icon after selecting the army. Hover over any stance to learn the effects it brings.
Army fatigue
There are certain territories on the map, which will cause your armies to become exhausted - the army will shrink slightly after each turn. The more harsh the land, the more your units will suffer. The worse kinds of territories are these with high levels of corruption or those with extremely dangerous environments (such as the arctic wastelands of the north). Available countermeasures include setting up a camp (which will, however, allow you to use only half of the available movement points) or using underground passages (only available for the Skaven).
Note that the game will inform you about the effects the given environment has on your army - if you hover over it with the cursor and a small skull icon appears, it means that the army is becoming fatigued.
