Slingers in Total War: Arena Total War Arena Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 28 February 2018
Factions: Greece
Slingers are a strong ranged unit with acceptable armor and health levels and high damage (stronger than Greek archers, but weaker than Barbarian ones) which mitigates armor. You won't do much against heavily armored opponents, so your main targets will be archers/Velites, light cavalry (from a safe position), artillery, or enemy units in retreat.
- The key to success lies in ranged combat with a longest possible effective range which can be further increased through unit upgrades and used items.
- Take note that the projectiles have a low angle, similar to javelin throwers. As a result, slingers need to take suitable positions - not behind allies' backs and away from high or low landforms.
- Change your position often and prepare ambushes in tall grass or forests.
- You have access to numerous items that can surprise your opponent - use them with caution, and you'll be able to stand against even stronger opponents.
- Mix slingers and javelin throwers and lead them using Miltiades.
