Place the artillery at vantage points that offer a good view of your opponent. - Light Artillery in Total War: Arena - Units, Items & Tips - Total War Arena Game Guide
Place the artillery at vantage points that offer a good view of your opponent.
  1. Light artillery is different than its heavy counterpart. You'll receive access to small devices, deployed instantly, with a narrow field of vision and extended range.
  2. These devices are very mobile, so it is recommended to change your position often. Every successful hit kills at least a single enemy.
Consider using stakes to safeguard your positions. - Light Artillery in Total War: Arena - Units, Items & Tips - Total War Arena Game Guide
Consider using stakes to safeguard your positions.
  1. Mix up light artillery with other types of units or find a player who will protect you effectively.
  2. Light artillery can be used to eliminate any target - you may have problems hitting cavalry (which may be your biggest enemy).
  3. Avoid enemy artillery by moving away from its effective range.
  4. Julius Cesar is the dedicated artillery leader. You can also choose Sulla.

  1. Abilities and Attributes

Instead of abilities, artillery offers functional buttons:

Toggle Fire-At-Will - Activate to make your artillery engage any opponent in their range of fire. Watch out for friendly fire - the projectiles fly in a straight line, so you may hit allied units.

Deploy/Undeploy Engine - Takes about 2 seconds.

Repair - A damaged engine can be repaired.

Drop Artillery - Escape leaving the machines behind. If the enemy has been repealed and the machines are still operational, you can use them again. Otherwise, your units stay without a siege engine and can be sent e.g. to man a vantage point.

  1. Consumables

Barricades

Create barricades to hinder the enemy progress.

Wooden Stakes

Same as infantry stakes - place them on the ground to make the enemy unable to reach your position.

Caltrops

Throw them at the enemy's legs to stop him in place and allow a safe retreat.

Carpenters

Improves aiming and increases the effective range of an engine.

Surveyors

Improves aiming and the speed of deployment.

Trilobate Field Bolts

Longer range with less damage.

Broadhead Field Bolts

More powerful but offer lesser range.
