Tips for Ruiner | Basics Ruiner Guide
Last update: 26 September 2017
Ruiner is a difficult action game during which you must face numerous enemies. Below, you can find general tips and those connected to combat - you should get familiar with them before you start the game yourself:
General tips
- Difficulty level. The game is really difficult and you must remember about that when you select a difficulty level. When you start the game, you can choose from three options. The easiest makes the game simple but even then, you may have some problems. Normal is the equivalent of hard in other games - the game can be ruthless, one mistake and you are dead. The highest difficulty level is really hard - completing this game on that level is a real challenge. You can change difficulty level during the game but remember that you get rewards only for the lowest one.
- Abilities. Remember, that during the game you can freely modify your character's abilities. There is nothing stopping you from, e.g. hacking enemies during one fight and then moving those points to another ability and unlock grenades. You must experiment because a game based on extermination doesn't have one true path that you must follow.
- City. From time to time, you return to a city full of various characters. You should spend some time and explore Rengkok's roads. You can have conversations with interesting characters and expand your knowledge about the world and events in the game. Some of the characters can give you additional missions such as hacking cats, dying a certain number of times or collecting coins.
- Collectibles. Even though the game doesn't have any real collectibles, during levels you can find additional chests with Karma or coins that you need to complete one of the side missions. Follow this mindset - if the game orders you to follow a certain direction then you should visit other paths first. Usually, you can find a powerful weapon, Karma points etc.
Combat tips
Remember that you can increase weapons' durability by unlocking certain abilities.
- Weapon durability. Notice, that each weapon has a certain amount of durability/ammo clip capacity. In other words, your weapons wear out when you use them. This is important because some of them are very strong and it is worth to keep them for, e.g. a boss fight. You should also try to unlock abilities that extend their durability which should be done as soon as you can.
- Dash. Dash is the most basic mechanic in the game. This ability is used for dodging, leaping towards enemies or moving quickly on an arena. Another useful mechanic is the ability to plan your Dashes in advance - you can, e.g. attack an enemy and quickly go back to a safe spot.
- Enemies upgrade. The game's difficulty level raises systematically. In the beginning, you face weak Guards but, when you become greater and greater threat, you will fight with new mercenary groups. The enemies in the later levels can perform Dashes, teleport or use, e.g. miniguns.
- Don't charge. If you don't play on the easiest difficulty, the game will punish you for thoughtless moves. Enemies always outnumber you and they attack you by using powerful weapons. Try to find covers and lure enemies to your location.
