Basic information

The Fractured Wastes is the fifth biome of the planet Atropos in the game Returnal. The Fractured Wastes are very similar to the Crimson Wastes, but the climate here is frosty and the surface of this biome is covered in ice. It should be noted here that this is the only biome without a boss.

Upon opening the Hadal Vault, you will find a new gadget, the Hadal Ballasts. Selene will attach these to her legs, enabling her to walk underwater from now on and to explore previously inaccessible areas in the earlier biomes.

In one of the optional sectors of the Fractured Wastes, you will find another extremely useful gadget, the Promethean Insulators. This item will allow Selene to walk safely on the red ground, which would normally deal a lot of damage to her.

The most dangerous opponents

The first extremely formidable type of enemy inhabiting the Fractured Wastes is the well-known Severed. These opponents have exactly the same skills as earlier, so they shouldn't surprise you with anything new.

In this biome you will also encounter levitating spheres, which you certainly had the opportunity to fight while exploring the third biome (the Derelict Citadel). These spheres can fire many projectiles in all directions, summon laser beams, and teleport to random places.

The final fearsome opponent that can cause you a lot of trouble is an enhanced version of the Severed. This opponent is very resistant to damage and has access to several unusual skills, such as an orb that stays afloat for a while and shoots two laser beams.
