Returnal: Teleportation/fast travel - how to unlock? Returnal guide, walkthrough
Last update: 23 April 2021
This page of the Returnal guide answers how to unlock the teleportation option via translocators. In addition, we inform you how does the fast travel mechanic works and when you can start using it.
Teleportation/translocators - how to unlock?
You will begin to find translocators during your first playthrough – they are round platforms thanks to which you can travel between different areas of biomes. Translocators are initially inactive, and you cannot interact with them.
Continue exploring the Overgrown Ruins (the first region of the world) until you come across the corpse of a creature – Selene will find a Hermetic Transmitter. This gadget will be added to the permanent equipment – you won't lose it in subsequent cycles.
From now on, you can use the translocators.
Fast travel and types of translocators
There are two ways to teleport via translocators. The first option is a two-way trip. You can travel between translocators that have already been discovered in a given biome. This works just like fast travel – you open a list of discovered translocators and choose the one you want to move to.
Additional hint - Use translocators to return to locations where you want to, for example, reach a mission objective, use a previously ignored fabricator or another device.
The second option is a one-way trip, i.e. the game will automatically choose the destination for you. You may encounter this type of translocators in secret locations or when exploring multi-level areas. These teleports may, for example, help you go from the lowest level to the highest.
You can also find Translocation Sphere – consumable teleports presented in the picture. Its unique feature is that it transports Selene to an unknown place. By default, this should be a randomly selected secret area, where you can expect, for example, treasures or optional battles.
We recommend using these items right away to visit as many locations as possible within a given biome.
