Personnel and special railcars in Railway Empire Railway Empire Guide & Walkthrough
Last update: 12 March 2018
Personnel are people who you can optionally hire in order to increase the effectiveness of your company. The employees are divided into several categories: railway employees (trains), office staff, commissioned employees. The first category can be assigned to the appropriate position on one of your trains.
- The second category works in your office and gives global bonuses, e.g. a faster unloading time or lower construction costs. The third category are commissioned employees, such as spies (they steal technology from an opponent), bandits (they can rob a rival train), scientists (they add research points), etc.
- For commissioned employees, you pay large, nonrecurring sums, but the benefits received can also be very profitable. When employing ordinary employees, you pay a small sum to start with and then a fixed salary. Railway and office employees gain experience over time, which translates into higher bonuses. When hiring and assigning people to trains, you should start with express trains, because this way you will increase their speed and reduce the amount and time of repairs.
- Each employee has one character trait that distinguishes him from the others. You will gain extra bonuses by creating teams where the employees like to work with each other.
- They will not only be better at their jobs, but will also have increases to their statistics and will gain experience faster.
- A well-chosen team allows for earning extra money from tickets and can offer faster travel times for express trains, while freight trains will be less likely to break down and will traverse steep sections faster. Before assigning an employee to a train, check all currently assigned staff, in order to see how the new worker affects the other team members. The same rules apply to office workers.
- If you choose personnel that does not work together well, you will soon have two separate issues on your hands. The first is reduced bonuses from a given employee. The employee will continue to charge the same wage but his efficiency will be lower.
- The second issue is train breakdowns. They result from the difference of opinions and bad relations between employees. The train will experience frequent failures, and as a result, it will affect the speed and profits of the train. If possible, always avoid picking personnel who do not like one another. It is better to leave the positions empty than to allow for additional train breakdowns.
Special railcars
- When dealing with the composition of your train, you can assign special railcars that will affect the profits or the performance of the train. They work in a similar way to employees, but in the early years you will not have access to most of them, some will have to be unlocked by means of scientific research, and there are a few that you will be able to connect up to your trains from the very beginning. Three of the special railcars will increase profits from transported resources, food, passengers or mail. A caboose will allow you to increase the bonuses from your employees, so it will be useful with a full team.
- Although every railcar provides tempting bonuses, it is not worth adding all of them to a single train. This way, you limit the number of wagons with goods/passengers that will be pulled by the train, and thus, you will earn less and transport less to the cities. One or two special railcars on selected lines is the maximum distance you should go with this. On most connections, you will not use these wagons because they will not affect the profits to any significant degree.
