How to obtain specific versions of Eevee evolutions? Pokemon GO Guide

Last update: 24 February 2017

People familiar with other Pokemon games and with the animated series know that Eevee has a few different evolutions. Three of them are available in Pokemon GO - Jolteon, Vaporeon and Flareon. Normally in order to obtain one of the evolutions you must count on luck - causing the transformation will end in one of three possible versions. However, there is a way to change that.

In order to receive a specific version you are interested in, you must change the name of your creature (before starting the evolution) to one of three unique ones. Then the evolution will have a specific effect. In order to change the name of the Pokemon you must select it from the list of available Pokemons, then press the pencil icon located on the right from the name of the creature. The names are as follows:

  • Sparky - Eevee will evolve into Jolteon
  • Rainer - Eevee will evolve into Vaporeon
  • Pyro - Eevee will evolve into Flareon
  • Sakura - Eevee will evolve into Espeon
  • Tamao - Eevee will evolve into Umbreon

After the evolution you can change the name of the Pokemon to any you want.

Important - the game probably has a bug due to which the method cannot be used two times in a row. If you, for example, try evolving Eevee named Rainer twice, during the first time you will receive Vaporeon but during the second attempt you will receive a random creature from 3 available evolutions. Some players also claim that it can be bypassed by not making two same evolutions in a row - for example first evolving Eevee named Sparky and then Rainer. However, for now these claims aren't confirmed.

Important - out of three available evolutions, for now Vaporeon seems to be the best choice due to large number of health points and unmatched damage.
