Fighting other players Pokemon GO Guide
Last update: 20 July 2016
One of the most important novelties introduced in Pokémon GO is the combat system. It doesn't work like in other Pokémon games where it was turn-based and the Pokémons acted one after another. In this game the battle is played in real time which means that there were some changes.
First thing - the number of available attacks. Instead of four, only two attacks - regular and special one - are available. The first one is usually a simple hit while the second one is related to Pokémon type (this means that it deals more or less damage depending on with who you're fighting). Regular attacks are triggered with a single tap of the screen. Special attacks are activated by holding the finger on the screen for the required amount of time.
In addition to attacking, you will have to avoid attacks performed by the enemy. In order to do it you must swing your finger on the screen at the right time. If you succeed, the enemy will miss you. The battle is fought until one of the Pokémons loses all health points.
During the battle (and before starting it) you should remember about a few things:
- Before fighting, check what Pokémon will you face and select correct creature against it. Using a Pokémon that has advantage over the opponent (Water Pokémon against fire one, fire against ice and so on) will be much easier - your creature will deal much more damage and receive less from the enemy.
- Remember that Pokémon type isn't always the same as the type of the attack he will use. It might happen that a flying Pokémon will use fire, ice or electric attack. It's the type of attack (not the type of the Pokémon) that determines the number of damage dealt.
- Keep attention to the health of the Pokémon - his wounds can be healed only after the duel. During the fight you can't use potions.
