Xbox One Controller Firmware Update Offers Next-gen Speed

Older Xbox One controllers will get a software update that will introduce several features previously only available on the company's next-gen consoles, the Xbox Series X/S.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • With the new software, the speed of Xbox One wireless controllers will be significantly improved and pairing capabilities enhanced.

Microsoft is preparing a software update for Xbox One controllers that will give them several features present on next-gen hardware, like the Xbox Series X/S. We're mainly talking about significantly reduced latency and improved connectivity. The improvements apply to Bluetooth wireless gamepads, Elite Series 2 and Adaptive Controller.

The new software supports Bluetooth Low Energy mode, which will enable gaming on Windows 10 PCs, iOS 15 and Android devices compatible with this technology. The DLI (Dynamic Latency Input) feature will more efficiently deliver controller input to the console for a more dynamic gameplay experience. The controllers will also be easier to pair and switch between devices.

The new level of cross-platform compatibility means that the devices will need to be compatible with next-gen hardware, which is why the Xbox One Wireless Controller has been upgraded. The firmware update is available to members of the Xbox Insider program in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha channels today, and will roll out to wider audience in the coming weeks.
