What will The Witcher 4 be about? Fans already have theory based on forgotten event from Wild Hunt
The plot of the third installment may have messed up the state of the world a bit more than we think. How might previous events have affected the new Witcher?
The Witcher 4 trailer revealed during The Game Awards 2024 shocked the fan community, which quickly began breaking down the video frame by frame. Ciri's hunt for the monster, while not much different from previous cinematics dating back to The Wild Hunt, holds more unexplained secrets than we might have guessed - and it's not just Ciri's transformation.
What happened between the games? Fans believe that CD Pojekt Red have returned to a forgotten theme from the third installment.
The Impact of Conjunction of the Spheres on the world
The Conjunction of the Spheres is an event from the world of The Witcher that brought to the Continent not only magic but also new species of creatures, not necessarily friendly to humans. Although the original cataclysm took place long before the events of the books, we could see a preview of its repetition in The Wild Hunt finale, during the Avallac'ha ritual on Undvik.
In the end, the Conjunction is interrupted by Ciri, who enters the portal to confront the White Frost and stop the apocalypse. A moment later, an epilogue follows, depending on the relationship built with the her. We do know, however, that for a time the Conjunction actually existed.
A detail that many might have forgotten
Many people may have overlooked the unexpected Conjunction of the Spheres, given the thrilling pursuit of Avallac'h and the potential outcomes of Ciri's fate. Meanwhile, there is a possibility that the new cataclysm is responsible for the current state of the Continent.
The topic was raised during one of the discussions on the Reddit forum, started by players' disappointment caused by the departure from the concept of the "extinction" of witchers. Some fans expected a prequel going back to the golden days of this guild, forgetting about the new threats related to the second Conjunction.
An example of such danger could be the monster shown in the new Witcher trailer, previously unseen in the Witcher universe. As Sebastian Kalemba explained to IGN, the monster is called Bauk and is known for toying with the traumatic experiences of its victims. Commenting gamers are even more convinced that Witchers are needed now more than ever.
So many people don’t seem to realize this. There is a need for new witchers and who is best to lead the new batch but Ciri?

It's possible that several years have passed since the ending of The Wild Hunt. Furthermore, the Trials of Grasses also appeared in "The Witcher 3," albeit with some modifications to disenchant Avallac'h. So who knows, perhaps a safer method of acquiring witcher powers has been developed over time?
They also have a team of people at the very top of their respective fields who could plausibly come up with a new, safer and universal method for creating witchers. There wasn't one way to create witchers to begin with, every school had their own method.
There is also a need for new witchers after the ending of the last game because there was a second (mini) Conjunction of the Spheres. So they would want to come up with a new way of creating witchers anyways.
Creating an improved version of the Trial of Grasses would suit Ciri, who, as we know, went through the same ritual. How will CD Projekt RED get out of this? We will find out about this soon.
