Baldur's Gate 3 stands out from its predecessors, largely due to graphics. The games of Larian Studios and BioWare are separated by over twenty years of graphic evolution, which allows the third part to represent one hundred percent of the fantastic potential. Some fans would like to see the debut installment of the series on a new engine.

What would have happened, however, if the Belgian studio had stuck to the original style of Baldur's Gate, also retaining the old look of the portraits? One of the players redrew the companions in a 90s style.

You must gather your party before venturing forth

Lily Grasso, who goes by the pseudonym Feyspeaker, is an artist who has been professionally creating illustrations for seven years. Her portfolio includes tasteful fan art from various CRPG genres, including Cyberpunk 2077, the Dragon Age series, and more recently, Baldur’s Gate 3.

Some time ago, Lily deviated slightly from the path of semi-realistic works, sharing with the fan community a rework of portraits of companions from BG3, maintained in the style of previous installments.

The drawings depict not only the original six characters but also Minthara and Halsin, who can join the party at a later stage of the journey. The artist tried to preserve the characters' original looks while including features typical of the old style, like subdued colors, pastel backgrounds, and realistic skin tones.

The players who commented were thrilled with this "demake," commending the creator for flawlessly replicating the artwork. Art connoisseurs would gladly stock up on full-scale posters, although for now, they have to settle for mini-portraits from the artist's shop.

However, if you want to diversify BG3 nostalgically but are not a fan of isometric games like the first installment, you might be interested in a mod that introduces a first-person mode to Larian Studios' title.
