Tibia Keeps Going Strong; Company Expands Team and Rewards Devs with Generous Bonuses
Although cuts and layoffs are common in the game industry, things are quite different for CipSoft. The studio is making high profits and constantly hiring new employees.
Tibia is a cult game that for many people is just a relic of the past and a nostalgic memory of their youth. However, some people still play it to this day and it is they who constantly generate considerable profit for the devs. CipSoft Studio recently published its financial results for 2023, which clearly show that Tibia - more than 27 years after its premiere - remains a goose laying golden eggs.
24.5 million euro turnover in 2023
Last year, the company managed to generate a turnover of EUR 24.5 million, which was 11.3% higher than in 2022. However, the net profit rose by 21.8% to reach a staggering 14.5 million euros. It's worth noting that the studio has been consistently achieving a turnover of more than 22 million for 4 years, which is unquestionably an incredible achievement.
CipSoft continues to hire new employees and last year saw the highest number in the company's history, with 95 new hires. The record has already been surpassed and there are currently 100 people working there, with the studio announcing further growth planned in the near future.
Furthermore, all staff members will be given a substantial bonus equivalent to 85% of their annual salary for their contribution to achieving high revenues. It's really heartening to see this in the midst of widespread layoffs in the gaming industry.
The bad news that has recently reached us from many friendly development studios makes it difficult to celebrate our excellent figures as we did in previous years. We are lucky to operate Tibia, a live-service game that is backed by a very loyal community, but in which we have also invested in the right places over the past few years. For example, the core team of the game has been expanded by almost a third. This allows us to cope comparatively well with the current challenges in the industry.
So it seems that Tibia players can sleep peacefully, without fear that their favorite game will suddenly be turned off and the studio closed. Even as a die-hard Metin player, I'm happy for your happiness.
