The competition in Hero Shooter genre has been fierce lately. There is a battle of giants going on between Marvel Rivals and Overwatch 2, trying to regain popularity with its latest season. There are also smaller contenders like Strinova or Valve’s Deadlock, which is still shrouded by a fog of mystery. However, it seems like at this point the only one posing a chance between the two giants is FragPunk. It blends Counterstrike with Valorant and adds a card system on top of that. While it is a successful entry in the roster of similar productions, it still struggles with some infancy issues, like for example network errors or audio not playing unless you’re tabbed out of the game. Let’s see if there is anything that can be done about the latter.

No sound in FragPunk unless tabbed out explained

In fast-paced action shooters, knowing the enemy’s position is of a vital importance, and sound is almost as helpful as the vision in this regard, sometimes even more than that. There are some fans who can’t rely on audio in FragPunk, though, as it only works when the game is tabbed out. Of course, in this state, sound is impossible to utilize, so let’s try to analyze our options and find a way to fix it.

There are numerous methods shared by fans on Reddit and on Steam Community Hub, some of them have a chance of working:

  1. In game, navigate to Audio settings and disable “Keep playing in background” option.
  2. In the same menu mentioned above, locate “Voice Chat” section and change “Voice Output Devices” setting to your desired device. If it is already picked, try to switch to a different one and go back.
  3. Some fans claim that running FragPunk as an administrator sorts out this problem for them.
  4. Another way of dealing with this is disabling full screen optimization. It can be found in game’s executable properties, on the “Compatibility” tab.
  5. There are also voices that suggest using DirectX 11 instead of its 12 version. This can be changed from in-game menu from “Video” section under “Graphics API” option.

Let’s hope that future patches will address this problem permanently, without requiring any player input. Maybe console versions that are still under development will not have similar issues. While we’re waiting for them, don’t forget about gift codes providing some free rewards. Have fun!
