Starbase - Vast MMO With Destructible Environments Revealed
Frozenbyte has announced Starbase, a promising space MMO that stands out for its high level of gameplay freedom and a completely destructible environment. We'll be able to play it this year.
STARBASE IN A NUTSHELL:
- Developer: Frozenbyte
- Publisher: Frozenbyte
- Genre: Space MMO
- Platforms: PC
- Early Access Release Date: 2019
Frozenbyte Studio, previously known primarily from the Trine platform game series, announced Starbase - an ambitious space MMO that resembles Cloud Empire Games' Star Citizen. The title is aimed at PCs and will give us the opportunity to explore a vast universe, full of various types of threats and curiosities. Below you will find the first climatic trailer.
Frozenbyte's title will have one advantage over its competitors - completely destructible environment, achieved through the use of hybrid technology that combines traditional graphics with voxels. The game is to be characterized by enormous depth and freedom of gameplay. We will be able to build our own spaceships, design power grids, and destroy or repair the world around us at will (this is perfectly illustrated by some scenes in the trailer - e.g. around 0:40 and 3:30).
There will also be various types of tasks, activities, factions (e.g. an Empire fighting for the control of the galaxy and a Kingdom), and opportunities to interact with other users - Starbase is to focus on cooperation between players. The creators emphasize that cleverness and ability to cooperate will be worth much more than a long, tedious grind.
It needs to be said that the game looks great... maybe even too good. Having watched the trailer and read the press release it's hard not to get the impression that the devs at Frozenbyte are biting more than they can chew. It only remains to be hoped that they will succeed. The opportunity to try out Starbase may come soon - the title will be available in Steam's early access program later this year. Below you can see the first screenshots.
