Veterans of World of Warcraft, who have been with this MMORPG from the beginning, remember well the tragic Corrupted Blood incident. Due to the developers' oversight, the effect of lowering statistics, which was intended to spread only among characters participating in the fight with the boss at the end, instead spread like a plague from character to character, quickly affecting the entire world of Azeroth. As a result, it led to a real virtual plague, which affected four million players and filled the cities with countless skeletons of dead characters. The situation was brought under control by the devs only after a few weeks.

We remind you of this incident because, in WoW Classic, the epidemic has once again engulfed Azeroth. A certain player discovered how to carry over negative effects from a boss battle outside of the raid instance. It's unclear whether this is truly the return of Corrupted Blood or if the plague's source is different this time. Nonetheless, the mechanisms of the plague spreading are the same, as you can see in the video below.

This time, Blizzard studio will most likely react faster to prevent devastation on the servers. Nonetheless, it's a bit of a shame, because the Plague from 2005 was one of the most fascinating events in the history of the MMORPG genre. Players reacted to this situation in various ways—some tried to heal the infected, while others deliberately spread the disease wherever they could. As a result, the plague and the sight of cities full of skeletons of fallen characters became one of the most memorable episodes of the original WoW. This is well illustrated by the fact that this situation has become the subject of scientific research, and even served as one of the reference points for studies related to Covid-19.
