Sony Suggests PS5 Exclusives Will Not Have PS4 Versions
Sony's president, Jim Ryan gave an interview to gamesindustry.biz, from which we learn that the company believes that the next-generation console should offer the players a unique experience that they won't get anywhere else. In addition to the features of the device itself, this may include exclusive titles.
gamesindustry.biz published an extensive interview with the president of Sony Interactive Entertainment - Jim Ryan - who began with reassuring us that the release of the next-generation console is not threatened and the most important titles will be released as planned. He also spoke, among other things, about what PS5 will offer to the players. For example, he suggests that Sony is going to bet on exclusive titles that will not be available on PlayStation 4.
The value of a console is not only its price
Ryan said that the Japanese company wants to offer gamers a combination of unique values that will make up the best possible experience of using the PS5 (such as a number of games or their quality). In his opinion, the price of the console itself is not so important in this.
"I think the best way that we can address this is by providing the best possible value proposition that we can. I don't necessarily mean lowest price. Value is a combination of many things. In our area it means games, it means number of games, depth of games, breadth of games, quality of games, price of games."
An experience you won't find anywhere else
In one of the statements, Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO suggested that there will be titles available on PS5 that will not be playable on PS4. This is likely to be accompanied by other unique elements, as the developers of the company believe that the new generation should offer gamers something that is not available anywhere else.
"We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of those features.
We do believe in generations, and whether it's the DualSense controller, whether it's the 3D audio, whether it's the multiple ways that the SSD can be used... we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5."
We may soon find out whether Jim Ryan's words about the unique PS5 experience are true. Today we learned that Sony is going to present games for the next-generation console next week. Maybe among them, we'll see a title that we haven't even dreamt about yet.
