Sony Plans to Support PS4 for 3-4 More Years
Sony Interactive Entertainment's CEO said in an interview that the community around PlayStation 4 will remain important to his company for the next three to four years. Plans related to the price and launch date of PlayStation 5 were formulated early this year.
IN A NUTSHELL:
- PS4 community will remain important to Sony for the next 3-4 years;
- The price and release date of PS5 were set early in the year;
- The number of units of the console available for release will be higher than for the PS4, although the problems associated with the pandemic have raised concerns about the market situation.
In an interview for The Washington Post, Sony Interactive Entertainment's chairman Jim Ryan said that despite the upcoming release of ninth generation console, the PlayStation 4 platform will remain impoeratant for the Japanese company for the next three or four years.
“The PS4 community will continue to be incredibly important to us for three or four years. Many will transition to PS5, we hope if we do our job well, but tens of millions will still be engaged with the PS4," said Ryan.
Sony Interactive Entertainment will prepare more units of next generation console for the release of the PS5 than the PS4. The CEO of SIE also stressed that the plans for the PS5 - including the price and release date of the device - were formulated at the beginning of the year, although the pandemic made them a little more complicated. The global situation raised concerns.
“For quite some time, in the early part of covid, that picture was far from clear Just as the supply things was unclear, would there be any market? Would anyone be allowed to go outside? Would any shops be open? This has been a year like no other. But all of that just reinforced our resolve, and the path we determined at the start of the year was absolutely the right one," said SIE's CEO.
We would like to remind that PlayStation 5 will debut on November 12 in the Pacific region and on November 19 in the rest of the world. There will be two versions of the console on the market - with a Blu-ray reader ($499) and without it (for $399).
