Smite 2 Officially Announced. Beloved MOBA to Get Sequel
After 10 years since its original release, Smite will get a sequel. We can already sign up for free access to the closed Alpha version.
The once hugely popular MOBA Smite managed to attract over 10 million players in the first year after its premiere. In order to re-engage users who have become increasingly bored over the years, the iconic title will get a sequel.
Hi-Rez Studios has just announced Smite 2. At this moment, you have the opportunity to sign up for the list of players who - with a bit of luck - will participate in the closed tests of the game's alpha version. It is scheduled for spring 2024. You should apply on the official website.
The game will be available on PC (Steam - compatibility with Steam Deck confirmed - and Epic Games Store) as well as on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X consoles.
The specific release date for Smite 2 has not yet been announced, but it's worth noting that March 25, this year, marks the 10th anniversary of the debut of the original Smite, which the creators can potentially use. Nevertheless, considering that we are only awaiting alpha tests, it seems that this is too short a time to expect a full release.
It is worth adding that yesterday, the users of Smite Data Mining published a post about a "Smite 2 Founders Pack" mention found in the files of the first game, which - at that time - was the first clue heralding the sequel announced today. Moreover, this text contains several questions to which we have just learned the answer:
- Smite 2 , like the original, is intended to be a free-to-play title. Access to the alpha version will, however, require limited free keys.
- From the FAQ section available on the game's website, we already know that "Smite 2 Founders Pack" is the equivalent of the previous "Best God Pack", unlocking all current and future characters.
- Ultimately, however, this pass is expected to offer more options, which the creators will announce soon. According to data miners this may happen with Smite update 11.3.
- The progress and most cosmetic elements from the original Smite cannot be transferred to the new game. Our current expenses and achievements are, however, to be compensated under the new currency system.
- At the moment, the developers do not plan to close the original game's servers with the release of Smite 2 and assume their permanent, parallel operation.
Answers to more specific questions can be found in the FAQ section of Smite 2's website.
