Smite is a popular and quite old (it was released in 2014) MOBA. Regardless, the game has still thousands of people who play it every day (via SteamDB). Of course, part of the success is probably thanks to its free to play model. Many players are shocked looking at Steam page of Smite 2 and seeing a price tag. Is the series no more F2P?

If you are worried about the price, you don’t need to, as the game will be free to play but not earlier than upon full release. There is a limited access to the title during closed Alpha tests. As we can read on the official website:

Will SMITE 2 be free-to-play?

SMITE 2 will be free-to-play upon full release. During our Alpha and Beta testing phases, players will need to redeem a free key, gain access via Steam Playtest, or purchase a Founder’s Edition to play. This limited access is so we can build and shape SMITE 2 alongside a smaller core community throughout our testing phases.

So, the contemporary tests are for the most enthusiastic players who would like to support the game and developers. You can also try your luck with requesting access on Steam (option below premium purchases). If you are not sure about paying and have not get a free invitation, you can aways stick to the original Smite and wait for the premiere. As of now, it is unknown when the game will be fully released. It all depends on the tests themselves.

If you would like to learn more about the game before the decision, you can check out the post from developers and attached patch notes. The original game is highly regarded, it even has place on our list of Best Crossplay Video Games in 2023. Let’s hope that the sequel will be equally enjoyable.
