PlayStation VR2 Approaching; Sony Reveals New Features and Modes
Production of the PS VR2 is expected to start soon and Sony is revealing more and more features of the device - this time we've seeb the „See-Through View,” recording player movements and customizing the game area.
Ming-Chi Kuo - an analyst at TF International Securities, mostly known for revealing information about Apple devices - published a series of tweets on May 30, which indicate that Sony will produce around 1.5 million PS VR2 units in the second half of 2022, with the goggles going on sale in the first months of 2023.
Sony has neither confirmed nor denied these reports, but information revealed yesterday by the company may indicate that production will indeed go into full swing soon. We are referring to an article published by Yasuo Takahashi (Sony's in-house director of hardware, global product strategy and management) on the PlayStation blog, which takes a look at previously undisclosed features of the PS VR2.
- See-Through View is supposed to enable us to see our surroundings while playing, without having to remove the device, thanks to cameras built into the front of the goggles. All you have to do is press the appropriate button on the PS VR2 headset or select the right option from the control center. Importantly, this feature will not enable us to record our surroundings.
- Broadcasting yourself - when owning the PS5 HD camera, it will be possible to stream one's self while playing with the virtual reality goggles on one's head. This is supposed to enable us to better demonstrate our movements and reactions.
- Customizing the game area - using the PS VR2 Sense controllers and the aforementioned cameras, it will be possible to scan the room in which one is playing and then determine the space used for play. This can prove to be very useful - especially for people destroying their homes during VR gameplay.
- VR mode and cinema mode - in the former, the image will be displayed at a resolution of 4000x2040 pixels (2000x2040 per eye) with a refresh rate of 90/120 Hz. The second, on the other hand, will enable us to browse the PS5's menu, including its game collection and any multimedia content, on a "virtual cinema screen" - it will have a resolution of 1920x1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 24/60/120 Hz.
In addition, Sony assured that game developers will soon be given access to new features being prepare for the PS VR2. These are expected to be added as part of the upcoming PS5 console system update.
