On Friday, Palworld developer Pocketpair, announced a new project, a publishing arm. This was announced alongside the news that the first game they would be working on would be with Surgent Studios, the developer behind 2024’s Tales of Kenzera: Zau, who were publicly looking for a publishing partner a few months ago. Pocketpair opened itself up to other pitches and ideas, and within 15 hours, Pocketpair’s Communications Director and Publishing Manager posted to X/Twitter that they had received over 1,500 LinkedIn notifications.

Yes, it’s true, despite the ongoing lawsuit with The Pokémon Company and Nintendo, Pocketpair is launching a brand-new publishing arm focused on helping indie developers create their games. Pocketpair Publishing posted on X/Twitter explaining “we remain dedicated to making fun games, and we’re so excited to now be able to help others bring their own fun games to life.” After the breakout success of Palworld last year, it’s great to see that money going to support other indie developers that need the help. This announcement is very reminiscent of Outersloth, the publishing arm of Among Us developer Innersloth announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest.

Surgent Studios, the developers of Tales of Kenzera: Zau, are working on a new horror game with Pocketpair Publishing. Surgent CEO Abubakar Salim said in a press release via PCGamer: “both Surgent and Pocketpair are well-versed in taking risks. We noticed a pattern in the entertainment industry, and Pocketpair has given us the opportunity to make a horror game about it. It will be short and weird...” With the passion and creativity seen in Surgent’s first game, it will be exciting to see what this new title will look like.

If Pocketpair Publishing has received well over a thousand notifications in the first day, I can only imagine how overgrown their inbox has become over the weekend. Hopefully they have the patience and diligence to find the needles hidden in the haystack. Based on their social media response, it sounds like they have a great attitude about it.

Communications Director and Publishing Manager, Bucky, took to X/Twitter to respond to many fan questions and comments, even going so far as to create a Microsoft Paint flowchart to explain the structure of the business. In a question about how involved Pocketpair would become with the development process, Bucky responded withWe give you money. You make game.” For now, we will have to wait and see what Pocketpair Publishing announces next.
