New World Still has A Problem With Ban Reporting Abuse
The MMORPG from Amazon Games has been struggling with a number of problems since its release. Fans are particularly bothered by the abuse of automated ban report system.
The MMORPG New World started as a big hit, gathering a huge number of players in front of the screens on release. With time, however, things started, and continue, to get worse. The devs did not expect that the game would be plagued by so many problems. Players complained about things like recurring economic crises, boring endgame or the wave of bots that flooded Aeternum. Reports of numerous cases of ban reporting system abuse were the final straw.
When players found out that they can use automatic moderation to ban other users, they started use this system for less than noble causes. Already in October, the first waves of reports appeared. The process itself is particularly dangerous because of how easy it is to carry out the whole action. To report another player, it is enough to gather a group of about twelve people. In such a situation, the automated moderation will almost certainly permaban person without even checking his or her transgressions. Such a system completely disrupts the gameplay, an important segment of which is the PvP mode.
Having an automated moderation system is not unusual. Every game with a huge player base needs such a solution to a greater or lesser extent. This is because it is physically impossible to have all reports manually reviewed and resolved. New World's moderation algorithm, however, should be equipped with special safeguards against false reporting of players.
Amazon Games is trying to fix the game and provide players with a normal experience, but the developers still have a long way to go. We can only wait until all the problems are eliminated. Only then we'll be able to fully enjoy the adventures in Aeternum.
