New World: Aeternum Season 1 Fixes Hated Mechanics, With One Exception
New World: Aeternum makes important changes to the first season, but the infamous Blunderbuss still has to wait for actual improvements.
Update (October 15)
From the moment this message was created, New World: Aeternum has established an approximately two times better activity result on Steam. At the moment I am writing these words, 58,958 people are simultaneously playing the old-new MMORPG from Amazon Games (still a long way from the record set 3 years ago - 913,634 players at once). In addition, with 80 negative reviews from users of Valve's platform, it received 163 positive reviews today.
Original message (October 15)
The first season of New World: Aeternum has launched. Amazon’s revamped MMORPG is set to see some major changes in Season of Opportunity, some of which were previewed during the beta testing in September.
One of the fixes that the players have been asking for and has finally been implemented is the lock-in system. From now on, it does not immediately switch to the next opponent after eliminating the previous target in fights with other players, and it is easier to lose sight of the enemy and break the "target lock". This element particularly irritated users in PvP battles.
Unfortunately, not all the improvements desired by the fans made it into the game, as well as those related to target locking. The Blunderbuss still always hits an enemy, so the decision was made to temporarily reduce its damage. The creators are already working on an actual solution to this problem, but apparently players will still have to wait for the appropriate hotfix.
This includes, among others, a new PvP zone, raid, artifacts, seasonal rewards, and many minor changes. Players suspect that the official list does not include all game modifications. Amazon Games is one of those studios known for "ghost" fixes, not included in patch notes. We will see if it is the same this time.
For now, the premiere of season 1 of New World: Aeternum turned out to be quite a success, attracting over 24 thousand players at once (via SteamDB). It's true that this is still a result much worse than the records of the "old" New World, but the game hasn't seen so many people playing since January 2024.
