New Indiana Jones Game in FPP? Possible, but Unlikely
Two job ads for Machine Games have been posted online. They show that the studio is looking for people experienced in producing FPP games. This sparked speculations that they concern the recently announced Indiana Jones game. However, it seems unlikely.
Just a few days ago we reported that Bethesda has partnered with Lucasfilm Games. As a result of the collaboration Machine Games is to develop a game focusing on Indiana Jones. On the occasion of the announcement, only a short teaser was published. However, practically nothing is known about the game. This announcement caused quite a stir and led the community to search for clues related to the title. A post appeared on Reddit, suggesting that the new Indiana Jones is to be an FPP game. Its author referred to the information contained in two job advertisements posted by Machine Games (for the positions of level designer and gameplay animator). It seems that the studio is looking for people experienced in making FPP games.
The whole thing seems somewhat unbelievable. At the time of the title's announcement, Bethesda said that it would be a while before any further details are provided. This may indicate that the game is in early stages of development and its general outline is still being created. We should also remember that Machine Games is responsible for the development of Wolfenstein series, which is an FPS series. So it seems more likely that the new employees are to focus on the latest installment of the latter.
It is worth bearing in mind that so far three TPP action games based on the adventures of Indiana Jones have been created. These are:
- Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine from 1999;
- Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb from 2003;
- Indiana Jones and the Staff of Kings from 2009.
So it is equally likely that Machine Games will decide to keep the spirit of the originals and will go with TPP.
It should be noted that there is already a series of third-person action adventure games on the market which evoke direct associations with Indiana Jones. These are the Uncharted series from PlayStation and Tomb Raider games published by Square-Enix. The use of the same perspective in Machine Games' title may cause these positions to be compared with each other and eventually start competing.
At this point it is difficult to say how the new installment of Indiana Jones' adventures will actually look like. Speculations will not do much and can only lead to misconceptions. For this moment we can only wait for official information from Bethesda and Machine Games.
