Plot Outline and First Photos From the Set of Mortal Kombat
The first photos from the set of the upcoming Mortal Kombat movie have been released. We also learned some information about the film's plot.
Entertainment Weekly published an interesting footage, featuring some plot details but alos, the first stills from the set of the newest film based on the popular Mortal Kombat series. The director says that the movie will be filled with brutality, bloody fights and for the first time in the history of Mortal Kombat adaptations we will see the bloody "fatalities", therefore he expects an age rating for adults only.
Warning: the following text may contain spoilers regarding the plot of the Mortal Kombat film.
The movie will begin with a few minutes of introduction, which bring us back to the familiar setting known from the games - the conflict between the clans of Scorpion and Sub-Zero. The familiar characters will be introduced to the viewer in feudal Japan. The whole flashback will end with an exciting and meaty duel between representatives of both clans. Interestingly, the action will take place at a time when the heroes in question do not yet possess their supernatural abilities.
A few moments after the fight that opens the movie, the action will move to the present where we'll meet a character who hasn't appeared in the universe before - a disgraced MMA champion, Cole Young (it's worth mentioning that his fighting style is a combination of several martial arts, such as muay thai, judo, jujitsu and MMA), who, after losing his fame, tries to regain his old name and reputation. Cole is branded with the Mortal Kombat symbol on his chest, signifying his legacy, of which the young fighter is unaware. It is also known that Sub-Zero, at full strength, will prey on unsuspecting Young on the orders of the sorcerer Shang Tsung, the ruler of the dark land called Outerworld.
After Cole and Sub-Zero cross paths, the fighter will encounter another stigmatized hero, special forces major Jackson "Jax" Briggs, who will direct him to seek out Sonya Blade. The hero will then appear at a temple of an elder god named Lord Raiden, which acts as a safe haven for marked individuals. Inside, Young will meet familiar characters from the series, such as Liu Kang, Kung Lao, and Kano, who are training to repel the Outerworld invaders.
We'll have to find out the rest of the story for ourselves. Fortunately, we won't have to wait long, as the movie will hit the big screens in a few months. Let's hope that the director's words about meaty action are not exaggerated and that one of the characters will indeed lose their spine during the screening.
The Mortal Kombat movie will hit cinemas and HBO Max on April 16, this year.
