Mechajammer - Promising Futuristic RPG Gets Trailer and Demo
To celebrate E3 2021, Whalenought Studios has released a demo and a new trailer for Mechajammer, a promising cyberpunk RPG with a turn-based combat system.
- Developer: Whalenought Studios
- Publisher: Modern Wolf
- Genre: RPG
- Platform: PC
- Release Date: hopefully as soon as possible
One of the most interesting games announced during the PC Gaming Show turned out to be Mechajammer, It's a tactical cyberpunk RPG Serpent in the Staglands developed by Whalenought Studios.
The game will launch exclusively on PC. No release date was given and the devs limited themselves to stating that it will happen soon. Fortunately, we don't have to wait to check out the title. Right after the end of the PC Gaming Show a demo was made available, which you can download on Steam.
Mechajammer combines elements of cyberpunk and horror. The action is set in a colony on a jungle-covered planet. The player commands a squad of deserters, whose ship crashed on the surface of this world and to leave it, it will be necessary to gather a lot of funds and many favors.
During the game we have to make alliances, gather information, bribe enemies and above all, perform missions. The game offers a turn-based combat system, in which the player gives orders to his characters, and then has to observe how they are carried out simultaneously with the commands of the AI-controlled enemies. Mechajammer is to be strongly non-linear. The devs promise that tasks can be performed in many different ways, and the player decisions will shape the course of the story.
It is worth noting that although the game was officially announced yesterday, in fact, it was only the disclosure of the latest incarnation of this project. This is because it began its life in 2015 as Copper Dreams. Back then, it offered simple but reasonably realistic 3D graphics. Two years later, the developers revealed a new version, with the same title, but with altered visuals, which remained 3D, but gained a heavily cartoonish style.
In 2020, there was another, even greater change in the form of the project. The name Copper Dreams was abandoned in favor of Mechajammerand the graphics underwent a complete metamorphosis. In this edition they feature an isometric camera, 2D sprite characters, and 3D locations and objects in the environment covered in pixelated textures.
The latest version, revealed at yesterday's PC Gaming Show, is the next stem in the evolution of the game. The style seen in last year's footage has been retained, but the camera is no longer permanently locked in isometric view and shows the action from different angles. In terms of visuals, this is definitely the prettiest incarnation of the project yet, but we hope that this is the last big metamorphosis and we'll see the game's release soon.
