Manor Lords Dev Explains Mechanic Limitations, Highlighted by New Feature
Alpha testing of the Manor Lords strategy confirmed the developer's belief that too much randomness in gameplay isn't a good idea.
The anticipated Polish medieval ruler simulator launches in a month. The strategy game creator keeps players entertained, for example, by releasing a video showcasing a fun but impractical feature in Manor Lords.
A while ago, Grzegorz Styczen considered hosting a "screenshot contest" after his debut game hits early access. Apparently, this is not the only artistic aspect of the game that the Polish creator was thinking about.
In an entry published on X, the Pole mentioned that one of the Manor Lords alpha testers had prepared a video showing the passage of time in the game. This was possible thanks to a feature that StyczeA? added for just this purpose: Manor Lords will allow you to save camera position.
Players waiting for the title clearly appreciated this seemingly minor novelty (via Reddit/X). Nonetheless, one of the internet users noticed that the rain visible in some shots is rather lacking in dynamism.
This is a deliberate move - the Pole explained that rain is one of the factors affecting gameplay and that is why the creator decided to make rainfall a bit more "predictable." Many testers complained that the randomness of the rain was a problem for them (rainfall reduces the effectiveness of archers, and can also destroy supplies).
Some players are somewhat disappointed with this "predictability," but the developer has suggested that too much randomness in the game would only spoil the fun. There may be other solutions (option in the game settings?), but the creator probably has other priorities.
Manor Lords will be released on April 26 in Early Access on PC. The game is also heading to XSX/S.
