„I Put My Heart Into It While Experiencing Hell.” Attack on Titan Finale Was „Overwhelming” Challenge for Yuki Kaji
A star, of Attack on Titan, Yuki Kaji recalls his demanding role. Working on the last part of the finale was an „overwhelming” challenge for the actor.
Attack on Titan ended last year when the final part of the finale aired. However, this doesn't mean that fans had to say goodbye to the series, as a film was released in theaters in Japan in November 2024 called Attack on Titan The Movie: The Last Attack, which tied together both parts of the finale and, apart from fixing a few things, also featured a new post-credits scene.
While promoting the movie, Yuki Kaji, the star of the Attack on Titan anime, who lent his voice to Eren, spoke about his struggles while recording the second part of the finale, which took place last summer (via Oricon). The actor confessed that a lot was happening in his life at that time. In addition to worries about his child, he also had to face a demanding role. The recent events in Eren's life were very emotional, and playing him must have been a challenge for Kaji.
I think we probably did the dubbing for the second part in early summer last year, around June, but my child had a terrible cold, and I was hit hard by it. I wasn't in the best condition, but strangely enough, my voice came just on the day of the dubbing for Attack on Titan. I don't know if I had really given it my all, but the next day I couldn't get my voice out at all...
But maybe the fact that I was feeling exhausted both physically and mentally was linked to Eren. I look back on it as a funny story, but I was able to put my heart into my performance while experiencing hell. I remember being really overwhelmed in so many ways while doing it.
Even though Yuki Kaji was struggling with various things at that time, he gave his all and it can be heard. The actor's performance as Eren in Attack on Titan is widely praised, not only in the second part of the finale but also for his overall work. Especially since Kaji managed to play this character at two completely different stages - when he was still a young, naive, and loud boy, and when he became a colder, distant, and broken version of himself.
