20 years ago, work was underway on a film about the Fantastic Four. At the helm of this project was Sean Astin, well known to fans of The Lord of the Rings. The actor confessed that he saw Cameron Diaz in one of the leading roles in his project. He wanted to cast the actress as Sue Storm, The Invisible Woman, and came out to her with this proposal.

Her answer, however, was not what Astin wanted to hear. Diaz not only turned him down, but gave him the strangest reason, as she justified her refusal on the grounds that she would have to spend too much time in makeup.

However, this is something that Marvel fans who are familiar with the Fantastic Four heroine may not understand, after all, playing Sue Storm doesn't require much makeup, given that she looks like a regular person or is invisible Unlike the situation with many other superheroes, no characterization, which would completely change the actor's appearance, is needed to play her.

Sean Astin talked about his work on Fantastic Four during an interview with Collider.

I tried to talk Cameron Diaz into playing Sue Storm. But she was like, “Wait, how long do I have to be in the makeup?” And I was like, “Well, you know, for a while.” [She said,] "I don’t want to do that."

Astin therefore failed to cast Diaz. He also failed to complete the project. After him, Tim Story undertook the creation of a Fantastic Four film, with Jessica Alba playing the role of Sue Storm. The production debuted in theaters in 2005.
