GoT: Kingsroad on First Gameplay Trailer. New Entry from Game of Thrones Universe is Open-World Action RPG
Game of Thrones is back in a new game from Netmarble. Game of Thrones: Kingsroad will try to win a place in the open-world action RPG market on mobile devices (and PC).
Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is another entry in the Game of Thrones universe. The game from Netmarble's catalog was announced last month, but only now - specifically at the Korean Gstar 2024 fair - the developer showed the first trailer of this title.
The official game page only lists two platforms: Android and iOS mobile systems. However, a recently released financial report from Netmarble confirms that Kingsroad is also heading to PCs, with the game's launch planned for 2025.
The new production in the world of Game of Thrones is set to be a third-person action RPG with an open world. It will reveal events between the fourth and fifth seasons of the TV series and will take us to the frosty north near the Wall and Winterfell. The devs have to ensure consistency not only with the television series but also with the books.
Back in April of this year, there were hints that the game would feature a rich story campaign and would follow the MMO convention. It's worth noting that at that time, it was supposed to be a game developed not by Netmarble, but by Nexon (so something could have changed, and apparently that's exactly what happened). The project is allegedly being created based on Unreal Engine 5 technology.
Unfortunately, the developers have not yet provided us with details about the title, and the trailer didn't dispel the fears of the fans of A Song of Ice and Fire at all. They weren't particularly excited when it was announced that the next attempt to conquer the gaming market with Game of Thrones is an MMO. Maybe a shift in the game's development direction towards an open-world action RPG will change their approach to the project.
