Developers from the MercurySteam Entertainment studio, responsible for such games as Metroid Dread or both installments of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, have revealed their latest project. Blades of Fire is an action-adventure game where, as a blacksmith, we craft our own weapons to battle hordes of enemies. Below you can watch the first game's trailer.

Blades of Fire - some basic info

In Blades of Fire, we step into the shoes of Arana de Lira, the eldest descendant of the royal guard and the last man capable of wielding steel. We will arrive at a fantasy kingdom, where the newly crowned queen Nerea cast a spell that transforms steel into stone. In this way, only her army and main protagonist, who turned out to be immune to the spell, can wield the weapon. So, together with a companion named Adso, he set off on a journey to kill the queen.

The gameplay will be viewed from a third-person perspective (TPP), with a strong emphasis on tactical combat against more than 50 types of enemies. The devs describe the system as "unique and demanding," allowing to attack specific parts of the body in various ways, such as cutting, stabbing, or smashing. Matching the right style and weapons to the enemies' vulnerabilities will be crucial.

Speaking of equipment, creating it will be an equally important part of the fun. Aran forges his own weapons using collected materials and special scrolls, which we gather as we progress in the game. These will affect characteristics such as weight, length, durability, penetration, or blade quality. The title will offer 7 types of weapons and 30 scrolls, which according to the creators will provide "almost an infinite number of combinations."

Blades of Fire is heading to PC (exclusively on Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The launch has been set for May 22, 2025.
