EVE Online Blew Up a Sun; Players Ecstatic
EVE Online players recently witnessed an unusual event in which a star was destroyed along with the planet orbiting around it.
Space MMO EVE Online is famous for its grand events involving thousands of players, which are enjoyable to read about even if you don't play the game itself. The latest chapter from the history of this universe became the blowing up of a star.
Currently, the entire game community is waiting with bated breath for November 8, when the Uprising expansion is expected to debut. In preparation for this release, the devs are organizing interesting events in EVE Online. In one of them, players were warned to stay away from the Turnur system on November 2 at 11 am PT.
Destruction of the Turnur system
Of course, fans couldn't help themselves, and as a result, more than 1,800 ships gathered at the site. It turned out that one of the NPC factions decided to test a piece of alien technology in the Turnur system. Gathered players could see a laser hit a local star, which after a moment caused an explosion that blinded everyone.
When the subsided passed, it appeared that the star began to collapse, and a devastating wave swept through the entire system. The only local planet was turned into scorched rock, and many ships were destroyed or severely damaged.
Less than stellar response of the players
Some players immediately rushed to evacuate the injured, but they were in the vast minority. Most pilots saw this as an excellent opportunity to make a profit. As a result, they started finishing off the most damaged units. To make matters worse, the injured could not escape, as the star gates stopped working.
All this lasted for several minutes. Then the star gates were reactivated and fleets of other players arrived on the scene to handle the survivors. Also between them fights broke out over the most valuable loot, thanks to which some of the damaged units managed to escape.
What's next
The developers confirmed that Turnur has been destroyed forever. Moreover, two more devices identical to the one that caused the disaster have been detected in the galaxy, and players will have to try to find a way to neutralize them in order to save more systems from destruction.
It is worth mentioning that the Turnur event is part of a new initiative by the developers to more actively shape the storyline of the EVE Online universe, rather than just relying on the actions of the players themselves.
Uprising expansion
Uprising will debut on November 8. It will be the first expansion for EVE Online that will emphasize storyline, although traditionally the course of the story and its end will be shaped only by the players themselves. We can also expect improvements in faction wars and new ships.
