After the long wait, Path of Exile 2 dropped, and what a release it was. It has shaken not only Steam by skyrocketing towards top ranks activity-wise, far surpassing its predecessor (via SteamDB), but also the whole hack’n’slash genre in general, making Diablo IV run for its money. Despite the fact that the game has only just launched in the Early Access program, it receives very positive reviews, which of course doesn’t mean that the title is flawless. On the contrary – there is a lot to be fixed, but the developers are aware of that and are consistently working based on players’ feedback. One of the most pressing matters is drop rate, which is a big part of PoE 2 experience.

Drop rates fix in PoE 2 explained

There is a fine line between well balanced game, and it being completely broken and unsatisfactory. It can relate to many aspects, like skills and power balance, weapons readjustments, class changes, and finally drop rates. In such an item-reliant title as Path of Exile 2, delivering the right results can be indeed quite a challenge. Developers from Grinding Gear Games are well aware of the fact that fans are unhappy with how the item drop rates shape in their latest production. That’s why they have taken steps to counteract that.

To address the concerns shared by the fans, GGG is doing their best to tinker with some drop mechanics. There are changes introduced regarding rare monsters consisting of doubling rarity bonus for rare mods. Also, a 10% Quantity bonus was added per rare mod. To compliment that, the chances of rare monsters having more modifiers in the endgame have been increased.

What is more, the “Unlucky” Drop Protection system was added, which guarantees that no more than 50% of drops coming from unique monsters can be gold. To reinforce that, it will be now certain that Act Bosses and Map Bosses will drop at least 1 rare item.

There are constant changes being made to PoE 2 regarding item drops, and we can expect a lot more of them down the line. In case you would like to know more details about the most recent ones, you should visit the official thread shared by the devs.

As this production is very advanced in its mechanics, make sure to take a look at our guide, as there can be some interesting tips that you might have missed, like for example how the bar under enemy’s health works or how to get better health and mana flasks. Have fun!
