Criticized King Kong Game Said to be Have Been Made in a Year; It's Publisher's Fault
Credible reports have appeared online explaining the reason for the abysmal quality of Skull Island: Rise of Kong.
Last week's Skull Island: Rise of Kong turned out to be a complete disaster and the game seems to be a strong candidate for the title of the worst game of 2023. The Verge managed to talk to several of the game's developers (for obvious reasons wishing to remain anonymous), who explained how this happened.
- The main reason for the abysmal quality of Skull Island: Rise of Kong is the fact that the publisher, GameMill Entertainment, gave the developers only one year to make this game.
- Moreover, the budget allocated by the publisher was so small that it became impossible to keep the most experienced developers in the studio and they had to be fired.
- The size of the team developing Skull Island: Rise of Kong at times amounted to a mere 20 people, and there were times when only two people worked on the project.
Some gamers may doubt whether these reports are not just an attempt by the developers to explain themselves for a poor game, but in this case we give credence to the words of the developers. After all, IguanaBee, the studio responsible for the project previously took part in the development of a number of warmly received game, such as What Lies in the Multiverse, which has 94% positive reviews on Steam. The team has been active for twelve years and has never released anything as bad as Skull Island: Rise of Kong before.
The fault, then, seems to lie with GameMill Entertainment, especially since many of its recent productions have also turned out to be bad. Suffice it to mention such titles released in the last few years as Avatar: The Last Airbender - Quest for Balance, Cobra Kai 2: Dojos Rising or Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx, which have 25, 40 and 50 percent positive reviews on Steam, respectively.
According to sources reached by The Verge, GameMill Entertainment has a habit of giving developers very modest budgets and forcing short development times, and the result is terrible games. It is also worth noting how few reviews most of the publisher's games have on Steam, which is due not only to their low quality, but also to their surprisingly high prices.
