We first saw the action-adventure game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet at The Game Awards ceremony in December 2024 . Even before the official announcement, many rumors about the title were circulating, spread by journalist Ben Hanson, among others.

He announced in October 2024 on the MinnMax channel on YouTube that the employees of Naughty Dog studio (devs of Intergalactic) like to compare the then-unrevealed game to a certain excellent title in terms of the freedom offered to the player. However, the insider didn't reveal what title it was about.

I heard from somebody very in the know who worked on the game that they're like Jesus Christ... the tone was like you are all not ready for how amazing this is going to be... and the tone was (I'm not going to say the game that they referenced to compare it)... but they compared to a game with a lot of player freedom.

After a few months, Hanson decided to reveal which game he specifically had in mind - it was Elden Ring. He did it in a podcast recently published on the same channel.

I think it's fine to say it now: that game was Elden Ring that it was compared to back then. If I would have said 'Naughty Dog's next game is like Elden Ring' and then that reveal trailer came out, I feel like we would have been lit on fire.

For context, let's add that the first trailer for Intergalactic wasn't well received by the community. It got many negative opinions from players, so any earlier comparisons to Elden Ring might further worsen the terrible reception.

It seems that in Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, players will experience a similar freedom as in the game of FromSoftware studio. Apart from this freedom, loneliness, and religious themes are also supposed to be important aspects of the new game from the creators of The Last of Us.

So far, we haven't learned the release date of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The title will be released exclusively on PlayStation 5, although it is possible that, like other new Sony games, it will also hit PC some time after its launch.
