Can You Complete Baldur's Gate 3 Failing Every Dice Roll? Playing Faerun's Most Unlucky Character Has Its Charms
Baldur's Gate 3 is famous for the fact that the player's choices can affect everything around him. However, there is one barrier that cannot be bypassed, and that is the dice rolls. What happens if each draw ends with the worst possible result?
In Baldur's Gate 3, apart from the player's choices, dice rolls also play a significant role. They decide if we can successfully finish the conversation, uncover passages and treasures, and how many health points (if any) we will hit the opponent for.
Failed dice rolls may deprive us of the opportunity to choose a specific path or result in a conflict in a situation we want to resolve peacefully. But what if every roll ends with a result of 1? One of the players decided to check whether it is possible to complete BG3 in such a scenario.
Failed dialogues
The short answer is yes, but the longer one is a bit more complicated. Proxy Gate Tactician published a video on his YouTube channel in which he tries to play Baldur as the unluckiest character in the world.
Problems appeared right from the start. One of them was about gaining the favor of potential companions. Without successful rolls, you can add Lae'zel and Astarion to your party, but Gale cannot be pulled out of the rock, and Shadowheart hates the player. However, it turns out that Shadowheart will join the party anyway because the artifact she has is necessary to continue the game's plot.
The dialogues present another issue, of course. Many NPCs prove to be quite unfriendly when we are unable to persuade anyone, uncover their intentions, or deceive them. Additionally, none of our feats will prove to be useful. Because of this, you can't sneak up on anyone, find any secrets, destroy some walls, and worst of all - you can't adopt Scratch.
How to deal damage?
Combat proved to be the most challenging aspect, aside from the difficulties in obtaining items, companions, or convincing others to your opinion. Frequently, interactions with others will end in conflict when we don't succeed in dialogues. However, the problem is that if we can't roll more than one on the dice, every attack will miss.
Also in this case, the player isn't doomed to failure. There are attacks that have a 100% chance of hitting. The YouTuber used Astarion, who cast the Magic Missile spell nearly every turn, causing some damage.
BG3 also features weapons that can deduct health points from opponents even if you miss. As a result, you can deal an additional 1 point of damage each round.
This way, step by step, you can reach the finale of Baldur's Gate 3. This is great news for all players. It doesn't matter how badly our dice rolls go. It's reassuring to know that even with a lot of bad luck, we can still end the game successfully by using the right strategies and a bit of creativity.
